I don't know how many of you guys in the states who knows him, but here in Denmark, Niels Henning ?rsted Pedersen was one of the most internationally acclaimed jazz-musicians we've ever had.
He was even scheduled to close the Montreux Jazz-festival with Oscar Peterson this summer.
I will miss his sound on stage, it's what made Chris Minh Doky's sound what it is today. He's a legend in improvisation on a Double-Bass - A truly master of his instrument.
God bless his soul.

A sad day for all music lovers ,and especially danish musicians. He will be missed immensely!
In his prime years quite possibly the best acoustic bassplayer in the world.

Oh no! One of my earliest musical "viewing" memories as a kid was watching Oscar Peterson's show on UK television, with my dad. The show was great, and Niels was a big part of it. It was my first real introduction to the importance of the bass player.
Very, very sad.

Man, this is turning into a pretty harsh year for the passing of musicians. It's hard for sure.
Whilst I wasn't that familiar with his work, 58 is no age at all is it... Of course, thoughts and prayers with his family...

I am really shocked
He really was one of the great technical double bass players of all time.
Check him out on Standards by Birelli Lagrene; he plays the head to Donna Lee on double bass at full tempo!
a true master
